Exemptions
As we go to press no exemptions have not yet been agreed between the unions and the council.
If you are considered an agreed exemption for the strike day you will be told directly by a UNISON official.
The only automatic exemptions that will apply are as follows: -
Ÿ
Members on maternity leave.
Ÿ
Members who’s state benefits will be affected by taking action.
Ÿ
Members in their final year of service.
Any queries in this regard please contact the branch office.
Join us for our rally and help your branch.
Next Wednesday we will be holding a rally in central park next to Pittwood House at 11am.
We are hoping to get as many members as possible there along with other public sector workers from the area taking action that day.
Before that we could always use your help on the official picket lines - showing your support and giving out leaflets.
Volunteers would be very much appreciated. If you can help then please contact the branch office or your local UNISON workplace rep.
Do you have a FAQ?.
There is a web page dedicated to frequently asked question on the pensions dispute. This should answer most of your queries. To view it click the link.
One of the commonest question is what happens about your pension entitlement for that day. There is a special fact sheet which deals with this. Follow the link.
 STRIKE SPECIAL 22/11/2011
Unprecedented Industrial Action Due
In just over a weeks time we are due to take action to try and protect our pension rights along with other public sector workers.
This is not action that any of us relish nor desire. However, it seems that this is the only way the government will comprehend the strength of feeling amongst you and your fellow workers.
This will be joint action called for by the TUC. Public sector workers will be joining you in action against the robbing of our pensions by the government.
It is for that reason that we need all of our members to support the strike action. By downing tools, withdrawing labour and showing everyone just how much public services are a part of their lives.
We know that money is tight for everyone at the moment and the last thing we want just before Christmas is to lose pay. However, you stand to lose far more than a days pay if the Government has it’s way with the pension changes - much much more both now and into your old age.
We all need to support each other in this action. Merely not being at your place of work because you choose to take leave or work
from home that day is not showing the support we need. To the employers you will be considered to be at work. Any member that can be shown by the government as being at work will count against us all. It will hurt our current campaign and go against two of our core values - solidarity and fairness.
It is sincerely hoped that the Government will see sense and come forward with something substantive that may halt our action. However, at this stage this appears unlikely.
We therefore hope that you will all help each other and join together in supporting your fight for what is right!
