Public Sector Housing

Members in Housing are responsible for managing and maintaining the council's housing stock, including allocations, tenancy management, sheltered housing and tenants participation.

The council has indicated that its "preferred option" for the future of the housing stock is a transfer to a housing association. This will be subject to a ballot of all tenants some time next year. UNISON is oppposed to such transfers and has fought hard nationally for the "fourth option" which would allow councils to borrow money to bring housing up to the decent homes standard in the same way that housing associations are able to do.

However our priority is to protect the interests of our members working in the service. If a transfer is to take place we will be working hard to ensure transfer on the best possible terms.

Joint Consultative Committees

The JCC meets approximately every 2 months.If you would like an issue raising at the JCC please contact your steward at least two weeks before the meeting.
