Di's a STAR

Dianne Smithson, UNISON's steward at John Leggott College, has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award. She is one of just Over 150 people shortlisted from over 3,400 people nominated this year in 16 categories.

The STAR system, run by the DfES but independently judged, is a way to celebrate the great work of all those who work in the education sector – a massively diverse group of more than 600,000 individuals in a diverse range of jobs.

The short-listed nominees and guests are now invited to attend the glittering STAR Awards ceremony in Londonon 11 October 2005, where the sixteen prize winners will be announced. Each category offers the chance for winners to take home a £2,000 cash prize, trophy and certificate, and there's £5,000 cash prize, trophy and certificate up for grabs for the winning team.

Di is one of 11 finalists chosen for the Award for Outstanding Support other than Learning, which is sponsored by UNISON
